French-Australian Christine has travelled extensively for the last 20 years. Her sensitive and expressive paintings breathe the passion of those who pace our planet and quietly observe the relationship between humans and the natural environment. Her work, documented in catalogues and art reviews, has a strong contemporary feel that speaks in all languages.

Her unique style and her paintings continue to garner interest, critical acclaim, grants and award wins nationally and internationally and her works can be found in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide.

Christine Maudy’s extensive artistic career began as a fashion designer in Paris. After years of work and travel through Africa, Asia and Europe, she moved to Queensland with her husband in 1995 to pursue her passion and concentrate solely on painting.

Christine is interested in using the visual structure and patterns found in her natural environment to inspire the format of her paintings. She uses the sensuous, expressive flow of paint, line drawing and colour to recount her own experiences, to explore her relationship to this land, and to provoke an emotional response.
Christine often starts her abstracts with a layer of collage, sand and impasto until the shapes created suggest forms to her imagination. She then develops the work with subtle layers of intermixed colours in acrylic, oil and glazing.

Christine uses a variety of mixed materials including pigment, Chinese paper, gold leaf and sand to create a surface which undulates. She draws details from landscapes, walls, objects, images and prints and incorporates these into the creative process to build a cohesive composition.

Her abstract compositions and collages are narrative and meditative, with soulful themes of journey, discovery and placement. They do not only depict abstract reminiscences of places seen, they embrace the beauty and fragility of the natural world and the poetics of everyday.

Christine’s works mirror shapes and colours of nature. They come alive in a beautiful balance between fluidity and careful geometric composition. Their surfaces shine and radiate, transmitting an energy which at times culminates into turbulence.

The stunning and inventive use of lines and texture in Christine’s work form a rich and complex configuration of space, make her abstracts exceptionally powerful and provoke a strong sense of peace and tranquility, intensity and timelessness within the viewer.
