Artworks available to view in Sydney
Patrick Neu skillfully captures the essence of his chosen subject by using strong compositions combined with carefully selected photographic techniques. He succeeds in revealing his subject’s uniqueness by creating a strong balance between the visual and the emotional impact. His fascination with nature’s design, its use of symmetry, colours and intricate details is apparent in his work.
Patrick Neu was born in 1965 in Saarland in the South West of Germany. Growing up surrounded by forests & lakes; he developed his appreciation for nature and passion for photography at a very early age. He took his first photographs at the age of 5, owned his first camera at 8 and was processing and printing his own work, both B&W, RA4 prints and cibachromes at 14. Neu came to Australia in 1989 completed a BA in Photography at RMIT in 1994 and has been living and freelancing in Sydney since 1995
Patrick Neu has been a fulltime commercial photographer in Sydney for the last eight years. His commercial photography clients include Air New Zealand; David Jones; Micos and ODCM. He was also photographic in house studio manager at Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney. He is now working as an artist, specialising in photographic abstract art.
Artist's Background
Growing up surrounded by forests in the southwest of Germany I’ve always had a strong love of nature. This is reflected in much of my work where the images have an organic quality. Sometimes even the most mundane object becomes beautiful when you focus in on it, it transforms into something beyond the daily function. I like to experiment with movement and light creating images that are flowing rather than static and which preserve a certain amount of mystery rather than revealing too much. If I wake at dawn I can easily get lost capturing moments of light passing through a raindrop on a window or being mesmerised by closely observing the bubbles escaping from boiling water.
Having spent many years practising feng shui I naturally seem to focus on the elements of water, wood, fire, earth and metal, finding a way to make them look interesting and intriguing in an abstract sense. I feel very passionate about showing intricate details of beauty which are often not seen. My knowledge in feng shui also helps me to create customised artwork for clients. This will enhance and complement their interior space and achieve a comfortable, harmonious balance by carefully selecting the actual content, element and colour of the art pieces.
It’s all about energies and vibrations...what we don’t see often carries more impact than the things right in front of us.
Technical Aspects
The photographs are taken on, depending on the shot or project, either a digital SLR camera, medium format film or large format. At the next stage all images are enhanced either in the darkroom, digitally or a combination thereof. The final output is on photographic fine art paper, watercolour paper, or mostly canvas for the larger prints. Only the best materials are sourced to gain the highest possible archival standards. Other interesting finishes are possible, eg printing on aluminium or glass for a very contemporary look.
All images are available in different sizes on request. Furthermore, you have the option to choose from a vast selection of existing images in my stock library if you are looking for something more specific.
